I started this comic to answer the following questions:
Why was the banishment for 1000 years? Why so long?

Why did Nightmare Moon SUDDENLY become Luna with no tranistion period at all?

How does it make sense that nopony spent any time in the dark at all (back when Luna supposedly turned evil)? That never seemed realistic to me.

What is Celestia's true nature with regards to not only Luna, but anypony else?

And now you know. Perhaps it wasn't exactly like this (especially with the parts where I included my idea of their parents), but based on all the available evidence, I believe the theories and concepts portrayed here are fairly accurate.

I hope you enjoyed this comic and, rest assured, I have more planned, but those will have to wait a while. Many life responsibilities are descending upon me at once and we'll see how soon I can get to drawing again. Thanks for your support of this wonderful show!

EDIT: By request, the fate of Celestia and Luna's parents: I figure they're probably resting or have moved to their various duties outside of or on the fringes of Equestria. They still keep a watchful eye on things through their aspects (the sun and moon), but for now, after 1000 years, they've earned a rest

I love every part of it, but especially the ending.

This was both heartwarming and awesome.

I actually had a similar ideas, but in my case, it was when they defeated Sombra and banished him, he was the one who managed to infect Luna with a shard of his evil. It grew and festered within her, feeding on what probably were no more than a slight annoyance that Celestia was more popular. It fed and fed upon the feelings,until they burst forth and consumed Luna, leaving Nightmare Moon.

Hence the similar manifestation of Nightmare Moon as a dark cloud. The times match up too. Of course I suspect this was written well before season 3.
